It’s always fun to dress up your home for the holidays, but sometimes the options can feel limited or cookie-cutter.
To prevent your space from feeling basic, you have to get a little more creative—looking beyond the classic ceramic pumpkins and Christmas trees.
Not sure where to start? We tapped interior designer and TikTok sensation Bilal Rehman for his top tips on how to revamp traditional holiday decor with a unique spin.
From igniting all the senses (not just visual) to sustainable decorating ideas, his advice will ensure you a stylish, far-from-basic holiday season.
Bilal Rehman is an interior designer and owner of Bilal Rehman Studio.
When it comes to creating a holiday tablescape, Rehman suggests sticking to a few tried-and-true techniques.
“One of my personal favorites is to establish a strict color scheme, embracing a predominantly monochromatic aesthetic instead of blending various elements associated with the holiday you're celebrating,” he says.
Rehman notes that this approach imparts a sense of sophistication, whereas mixing lots of hues can look more kitschy or overwhelming. For example, if you’re sticking to a neutral color story, you can opt for white pillar candles, beige napkin holders, and ivory serving dishes.
As for how to choose a style? Rehman suggests staying true to your organic home decor.
“In other words, if your home boasts a midcentury modern design, focus on decorating within that theme,” he elaborates.
Rehman adds that eeping your ornaments, candle holders, and dishes in line with your existing decor style will seamlessly blend the holiday atmosphere with your space, creating a cohesive and inviting experience for your guests.
