We spoke with cleaning and organizing professionals from across the country who share seven main indicators that it's time to grab those spray bottles and trash bags and get to work improving your home.
A clear indicator that it's time to take on a big cleanup is when you cannot seem to locate the essential everyday items that you need—think keys, phone chargers, headphones, and the like.
«This is a sign that reorganization is overdue,» says Shannon Krause, a professional organizer and the founder of Tidy Nest.
No one likes a dusty house. Steve Evans, the owner of housing cleaning service Memphis Maids, recommends taking a glance around your home and paying close attention to the state of your light fixtures, baseboards, window frames, and more.
«These are areas that you don’t usually clean often, and if they are filled with dust, then it’s time for a cleaning,» he says.
If your house has a distinct, unpleasant smell, you'll want to take on a deep clean ASAP, Evans says. To ensure that your space maintains its appealing, post-clean scent, he recommends using a dehumidifier and/or air purifier after cleaning.
You can take other simple steps to keep your house smelling great. Danielle Moore, founder of A Little Moore Clean, recommends emptying trash cans daily, washing dirty dishes right after they're used, and placing dirty laundry inside of a breathable hamper to keep other day-to-day odors at bay.
