There are some design trends that, popular as they are, are secretly despised by some unlikely haters—interior designers.
We asked four design experts to go against the grain and dish on popular design trends that are currently all the rage, but that they secretly despise.

True Value product specialist Dawn Garrett agrees that painting cabinets is a great way to update old and lackluster cabinets without breaking the bank, but she is not a fan of some of the color choices that have gained popularity.
“Painting cabinets a bold or bright color is not a great way to go for several reasons,” says Garrett. “Not only can these colors be overwhelming and give the room an unbalanced look, but they can also be challenging to match with other elements in the room, such as countertops, backsplashes, and flooring.”
Instead of going bold and bright, Garrett suggests using a neutral paint color that complements and accentuates the color palette of the entire kitchen.
If you’re worried that selecting a neutral color won’t deliver the wow factor that you desire, Garrett says think again. Using neutral colors on your cabinets allows you to better utilize brighter shades in your accessories.
